THE_MISEDUCATION_OF_LAURYN_HILL_
:OBJECTIVE
The objective of this project was to select an existing album and create a thoughtful redesign that reflects its themes, tone, and cultural impact. The goal was to develop a new visual direction that expands on the original concept while staying true to the artist’s message.
:ORIGINAL DESIGN
The original album cover features a carved illustration of Lauryn Hill’s face on a wooden school desk, symbolizing personal reflection and growth. The album is deeply introspective and culturally resonant, exploring themes of love, identity, and black womanhood.
While powerful in its simplicity, my redesign focuses on youthfulness, struggle, independence, and community to reflect the collective experiences behind the music.

:ITERATIONS
I first experimented with a library stamp-style text to nod to Hill's youthful rebellion, but was later inspired to recreate the graffiti from photos I took. I used creative cropping to emphasize a sense of reaching for something greater. I also wove the track list into a crumpled report card to situate Hill's music within her personal and educational journey.
:FINAL
I chose to edit the photography in black and white to preserve the album’s timeless message and heighten the emotional impact of the imagery.
