Design a mobile app that addresses an unmet need through thoughtful, data-informed experiences while exploring the technical, ethical, and human considerations of personal data use.

PERSONAL DATA EXPLORATION
To begin this project, I explored where my personal data travels through everyday digital interactions. By mapping common activities like shopping, checking the weather, and listening to music, I uncovered the often-invisible network of platforms collecting and sharing my information. These insights informed the development of Solis.
Solis is an app designed to help people understand how weather conditions influence their daily decisions, behaviors, and well-being. Current weather apps show raw forecasts but make users interpret what that information actually means for their personal life. This app helps users by translating weather data into applicable insights like deciding how to dress, which route to take, or what to do later in the day.
PROBLEM
Weather apps give information, but not context, so people end up making decisions blindly, even though weather influences their choices, routines, and energy. There’s also no clear way to see how environmental data is actually influencing behavior over time, or how to use that insight in a meaningful, personalized way.
SOLUTION
Solis turns weather into something actionable, connecting weather conditions to personalized recommendations, voice interactions, and insights. It helps users make informed decisions in the moment while also revealing patterns over time. Ultimately, this app gives people more awareness and control over how their environment shapes their day-to-day life.
SECONDARY RESEARCH + BENCHMARKING
Research revealed that weather has measurable effects on mood, energy, and behavior, but those effects vary significantly from person to person, highlighting the need for personalized experiences.
Benchmarking existing weather and wellness apps informed a more human-centered approach to personalization, data visualization, and cross-platform integration.
USER PERSONAS
Summer represents users whose lifestyles and careers are greatly influenced by weather conditions. Stormi represents people who quickly check the weather amidst a busy schedule.

INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE
I initially used a Bento Box information architecture to reduce visual clutter, but user testing revealed that requiring users to return to the home screen created unnecessary friction. Switching to a bottom navigation bar made it easier to move between features, supporting quick comparisons between weather, preferences, and personal insights.
BRANDING
My branding focused on design elements that balanced aesthetics with function, emphasizing clarity through weather-inspired gradients, bold typography, structured layouts, and generous whitespace.
Building on these ideas, I created a logotype that subtly incorporates weather patterns into the letterforms, resulting in a distinctive and memorable brand identity.
DESIGN SYSTEM
The final design system uses bright, semantic colors to communicate weather conditions, with Apple-inspired glass components, SF Symbols, and accessible interaction patterns to create a cohesive experience across mobile and CarPlay.
These visual foundations informed the component library, balancing brand consistency with platform-specific accessibility guidelines.
